Guest of Honor
Devon Bruce
Devon C. Bruce is honored to be recognized by the Chicago Saint Patrick’s Day Parade Committee as The Honored Guest of the Saint Patrick’s Day Parade, a celebration of Irish heritage, tradition, and the enduring contributions of the Irish community to the City of Chicago. A prominent Chicago attorney, civic leader, and dedicated advocate for Irish-American friendship, Devon has devoted much of his life to strengthening the cultural, historical, and personal bonds between Ireland and the United States. He serves as President of the Irish Fellowship Club of Chicago during its historic 125th Anniversary year, carrying forward the Club’s distinguished tradition of fellowship, charitable service, and friendship.
A dual citizen of the United States and Ireland, Devon is married to Yvonne, who was born and raised in Tourmakeady, County Mayo, in the heart of Ireland’s Gaeltacht. His own Irish ancestry extends back generations to family members who emigrated from Ireland to Virginia before ultimately settling in central Illinois. As an undergraduate, Devon studied at University College Cork, deepening a lifelong affection for Ireland and its people. Among his most cherished memories are the many market days spent alongside his father-in-law, moving cattle to market in Headford, County Galway—experiences that gave him a lasting appreciation for the traditions, warmth, and character of rural Irish life.
Devon is a partner at Power Rogers, one of Chicago’s leading personal injury law firms, where he has practiced law for more than 30 years. Beyond his professional career, he has maintained a longstanding commitment to civic, educational, cultural, and philanthropic endeavors connecting Ireland and America. He serves on the board of Hillsborough Castle in Northern Ireland and has served for more than 15 years as Vice Chairman of The Ireland Funds’ Chicago board. He has also lectured to law students at Trinity College Dublin, contributing to the exchange of legal knowledge and professional experience between the two countries.
Together with his wife and family, Devon has been an enthusiastic supporter of Ireland’s rich literary, historical, and cultural heritage. Their efforts have included sponsoring the first North American book launch of Guinness: A Family Succession by the Fourth Earl of Iveagh, Arthur Edward Guinness; hosting, in partnership with the University of Notre Dame, the Chicago launch and discussion of Fintan O’Toole and Sam McBride’s For and Against a United Ireland; and organizing a private viewing of Ink & Outrage: 18th-Century Satirical Prints in London & Dublin at Chicago’s Richard H. Driehaus Museum. Devon also proudly supports Celtic Crossings Pub, a cherished Chicago gathering place where Irish nationals and Irish Americans continue to celebrate the fellowship, hospitality, and traditions of Ireland.
Devon’s commitment to Irish-American friendship is reflected in his longstanding personal relationships with leaders and families on both sides of the Atlantic, including Lord Iveagh and former Taoiseach Enda Kenny. During his presidency of the Irish Fellowship Club, he has worked to honor the generations who established Chicago’s Irish institutions while encouraging new generations to sustain their traditions.
For Devon, the Chicago Saint Patrick’s Day Parade represents far more than an annual celebration. It is a living expression of the courage of Irish immigrants, the achievements of their descendants, and the extraordinary community they helped build in Chicago. He is deeply grateful to the Chicago Saint Patrick’s Day Parade Committee for this distinguished honor and proud to join the generations of Irish Americans who have celebrated their heritage while contributing to the civic and cultural life of this great city.
